Alpe Adria Trail, international long-distance hiking trail connecting Austria, Italy and Slovenia, is 750 kilometers long hiking path that attracts hikers from all around the globe. And the locals as well. The trail with 43 stages, which was opened in 2011, was chosen as Top 7 trails in the world by National Geographic Traveller.
Can you guess which is the number one sport in Slovenia? Hiking of course 😉
„The photos of Soca valley are so beautiful!“ write most of my guests who are planning their holidays in Slovenia. As a local I have to admit that Soca valley is much more than beautiful. Soca valley should be on your bucket list when traveling to Slovenia.
My favourite parts of Alpe Adria Trail in Slovenia
From Trenta to Bovec on foot 🙂
„Are you kidding to hike 25 kilometers in a day?!“ Part of Alpe Adria Trail from Trenta to Bovec was for more than 2 years on my must-to-hike list. This section of AAT located in Triglav National Park is one of the most beautiful sections of the whole Alpe Adria Trail. Do not miss to taste local cuisine čompe with salted cottage cheese and krafi dessert! Or join me on my full day food tour in Soca valley!
No words to say! … many stunning natural wonders on the way staring with Soca source, continuing with hidden gem of Mlinarica gorge, Alpinum Juliana botanical garden, Small and Great Soca gorges, Krsovec gorge, magical waterfalls, endless hanging wooden bridges, lush green meadows with colorful flowers and medicinal plants, spruce forests … outstanding jewels of the nature. Need a local guide? Send me an email to vesna@slocally.com and check available dates for a undemanding guided walk in Soca valley.
This picturesque path leads along the banks of the emerald green Soca river and serves as a perfect selfie spot. I could not resist visiting a place close to Bovec where some parts of the film »The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian« were filmed. To take some more photos of course 🙂 Soca valley with crystal clear emerald Soca river is so diverse in all 4 seasons. Come and experience yourself! The best time to hike Alpe Adria Trail in Soca valley: April-September.
When the landscape changes … Rolling wine hills of Brda region
Another great walking option of Alpe Adria Trail hike is to experience fairlytale countryside of Brda wine region, walking through the cherry orchards, olive groves and endless vineyards. The landscape is very scenic and on a sunny day (there are more than 250 sunny days per year!) you can see down to the Adriatic sea. Walking around medieval village of Šmartno, discovering almost empty villages, tasting ribolla wine and indulging your taste buds with local cuisine is a must!
The best time to hike Alpe Adria Trail in Brda region: all year around (in the summer time start very early in the morning in order to avoid the heat).
Alpe Adria Trail is well-signed path so you can hardly get lost. Locals are very hospitable and they will help you despite language barriers 🙂 Unforgettable hiking experience in Slovenia.
