Soca valley gorges

Soca valley gorges

Soca valley is a region where you can admire many awesome gorges. Soca river paves the way through narrow rocky gorges and has carved canyons and natural pools. Get beautiful views of the Soca river and rocky gorges from the (foot)bridges or unpaved paths along river. The nature here is simply stunning. I prepare a list of 5 gorges you should visit when traveling around Soca valley.

5 gorges you should visit when traveling around Soca valley

Mala korita/Small Soca gorge

A 100 meter gorge Mala korita is an important natural treasure of the Triglav National Park. At the narrowest spot it is 1 meter wide. Any kind of sport activities on Soca river are prohibited here.

Velika korita/Great Soca gorge

Soca river has carved 750 meters long gorge Velika korita – one of the most beautiful and also one of my favorite sights on Soca river in Triglav National Park. It is truly a natural masterpiece of a kind. Its depth depends on the water level. Take a walk along one of Slovenia’s natural pearls and admire gorge from the wooden footbridge and from the paths along the riverbed. Be careful while taking a selfie standing on a rock just above Soca river. It is a popular place to cool down in Upper Soca valley. Check other cool places for swimming here.

Gorge Kršovec

Kršovec gorge is by many travelers underestimated gem. Take a walk on a wooden footbridge and observe the game of trout in emerald-green pools or simply join my Alpe Adria Trail Experience in Soca valley. A real magical place.

Soca gorge at Kobarid

These days Kobarid is popular food destination thanks to Ana Roš from Hiša Franko who puts Slovenia on a world gastronomy map. After tasting local specialties, take a walk on Kobarid Historical Trail. One of the stops on that trail is at Napoleon bridge from where you can adore the contrast between colorful kayak boats, emerald Soca river and white rocky gorge.
Coordinates: N 46° 14′ 54.074″ E 13° 35′ 10.102″

Soca gorge at Kanal

Kanal ob Soci, only 15 kilometers away from Herbal Rooms Homestay, is a medieval town located along the banks of the Soca river. Soca river carved a wide gorge which is 400 meters long, the widest gorge in Soca valley. Kanal bridge from where you can admire the southernmost Soca gorge is the distinguishing mark of Kanal and a popular tourist attraction. The Soca river is calm here so there are endless swimming opportunities and bathing areas in the emerald beauty. The color of Soca and picturesque colored Kanal houses are truly incredible. Soca gorge at Kanal is a great place to cool down in the summer time.
Coordinates: N 46° 5′ 8.393″ E 13° 37′ 57.825″
