Tanja’s Holiday Home Experience

Tanja’s Holiday Home Experience

Tanja’s Holiday Home is located on a picturesque hill, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, and is a perfect accommodation for exploring the Kozjansko and Podcetrtek region.

A steep and narrow zigzag road leads us to the house, which is situated on a hill with a magnificent view. The panorama is breathtaking.

We were greeted by Rok, who showed us around Tanja’s Holiday Home which used to be their home but is now a private getaway paradise for guests. Rok and Tanja have poured their heart and soul into the house, which can accommodate up to 8 people. The house is modern, comfortable and fully equipped and offers everything you need for your holiday.

Upon arrival, Rok provided 3 bottles of wine, a platter of cold cuts and cheese and herbal tea blends from a neighbouring farm.

Tanja’s Holiday Home consists of two floors and the basement (a private wellness area with indoor jacuzzi, infrared sauna, relaxation area with a bathroom) with exit to the garden with another (this time outdoor) jacuzzi, solar shower, loungers and barbecue area. On the first floor there is a well-equipped kitchen (induction stove, oven, dishwasher, American fridge, toaster, coffee maker, kitchen utensils) connected to a dining room with a large wooden table, a spacious living room (flat screen TV, game console, large comfortable sofa) with access to the balcony overlooking the vineyards and orchards (a great place to have a morning coffee or read fairy tales in the evening), a bedroom with double beds and a super clean bathroom with shower, toilet and washing machine. A staircase leads to the second floor with a bedroom (double beds and a bunk bed), a spacious living room with sofa, exercise bike, double beds with access to the balcony.

You can easily explore the entire Kozjansko and Podcetrtek region from the holiday house. We decided to visit the Tower of Love, ruined Žusem castle, and the Rafov rov tunnel, a unique earth hut built by Rafko and his creative and innovative family. On the tour through the heavenly underground labyrinth, we were also served with homemade spirits and snacks with homemade salami. You simply have to experience it and listen to Rafko’s enthusiastic report, otherwise you cannot believe that these tunnels were dug by human hands. As proud as he is of his creation, Rafko also never forgets to mention his wife’s constant support.

On the last day, we were invited for breakfast at the nearest organic farm Žurej, where Mojca and Franc treated our taste buds with homemade jams (blueberries, raspberries, plum, apricot, strawberries), honey, yoghurt, fruit, salami, sweetened Emperor’s Mess pancakes (‘šmorn’), apple juice, sweet cakes, eggs baked on pork cracklings (they were so tasty that I even forgot to take a photo of it), coffee and tea. Homemade and homegrown food make their Bed&Breakfast the most delicious accommodation possible. In addition, you can also buy food and wine to take away. Tourists who use their private caravan park rarely leave without additional purchases and a basket of goodies. You can also enrich your travel itinerary with a guided tour around the farm.

Before heading home, we indulge our taste buds at the Pivnica Lipnik in Šmarje pri Jelšah. We could not resist tasting their beers (dark, light, wheat – Beer has been brewed here since 1995), finger food (which is also what they are best known for), pizza and a wide selection of sweet desserts from their a-la-carte menu. They choose their food suppliers carefully, which is why the food here is fresh, tasty and prepared with love. If we add the large portions of food served, we can conclude that this is a paradise for the taste buds. They even prepare their own pasta and for that reason, we will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Tanja’s Holiday Home is a beautiful house in the countryside surrounded by nature with a private wellness relaxation.
