Peterloug Hostel experience

Peterloug Hostel experience

Peterloug Hostel is located in the Pomurje region in eastern Slovenia. After a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Ljubljana, we finally reached the Goricko region.

As it was already late in the evening, we stopped at the Gostišče Rudi restaurant in Šalovci, where we tantalized our taste buds with bograč, ciganska roast beef and the Prekmurska gibanica dessert. Of course, the children were more than happy when they were served delicious pizzas with ketchup.

The sky was covered with thousands of stars, the silence was so deep and while driving towards Peterloug Hostel, we spotted many roe deer in the fields.

We were welcomed by Renata, who showed us around the Peterloug Hostel, which was built on the site of a former primary school. Lucija and Filip were more than pleased when they found out that there was a bunk bed in our family room. On Friday evening we were the only guests, but on Saturday evening we shared the hostel with a hunter and his dog.

The Peterloug Hostel can accommodate up to 52 people. There are 4 family rooms with private bathroom and toilet, 2 rooms with 10-bed dormitory room with shared bathroom and toilet and 2 rooms with 8-bed dormitory rooms with shared bathroom and toilet. There is also a communal kitchen with dining room (breakfast is served here, but you can also prepare your own food) and reception on the ground floor, while on the first floor there is a common living room with a TV and books. In front of the hostel there is a covered area for picnics, an open fire pit, a football pitch, a basketball and volleyball court, a playground and an electric charging station. Zvezdna učna pot (The stellar path), which consists of 6 stages, takes place near the hostel.

From the Peterloug Hostel, you can easily explore the entire Goricko region. One day we decided to visit the Porabje area with the Slovenian minority in Hungary. We drove and hiked to the Kétvölgy kilátó lookout tower, took a photo of Slovenian Triglav in Andovci and walked through Monošter (which is only 15 minutes away from Peterloug Hostel), while on the last day we visited two observation towers from the Yugoslav period in Hodos and the Pot po mocvari educational trail, which focused on “hearing” and “seeing” the fauna and flora in the village of Loncarovci.

We also didn’t forget to indulge our taste buds. Do not miss out on trying the excellent pizzas at Okrepčevalnica Cimester in the village of Kovacevci. The Zlata drvarska pizza, which was awarded a Slovenian gold medal in 2018, consists of pumpkin flour added to the dough, tomato sauce, ham, cheese, sliced mushrooms, peppers and some basil. In addition to the pizzas and lovely service, we spent more than an hour playing table football (also called foosball). And we really enjoyed it!

Peterloug Hostel is a perfect accommodation option in Goricko region. We really loved spent a great weekend there.
