Hotel Jozef Experience
Hotel Jozef is located in the town of Idrija in the western part of Slovenia.
A zigzag road from Logatec leads us to Hotel Jozef, which is located on the edge of the town of Idrija.
We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who provided all the necessary information about Idrija and the Idrijski zlikrofi festival, which takes place every third Saturday in August. They even kindly lent us umbrellas, as Saturday’s rain caught us a little unprepared.

This modern hotel, that fosters sustainability at every single step, is awarded with a Green key. It has double rooms and suites and is located just 10 minutes from the centre of Idrija.
We were given room number 206, a large living room with a large round window, fridge, minibar, TV and sofa, converted into a sleeping area for children. There are 2 bathrooms. The large one has a toilet, a sink and a huge bathtube (which really made childrens’ day) with shower, while the small one, which is attached to the double room, has a toilet and a sink. Our accomodation was super clean (what we could say for the whole building) and very cosy. Comfortable beds and pillows and plenty of storage space were an added bonus. We enjoyed admiring the passing cars through the round window.

There is a self-service buffet from 7am to 9am with gentle coctail music in the background. Delicious breakfasts includes local cold cuts and cheeses, various yoghurts, 2 types of spreads, butter, fruit salad, 4 types of cereal, nuts, dried fruit, honey, patés, chocolate spread, tinned tuna, bread, croissant, hot/cold milk, tea, coffee and scrambled eggs with bacon. Delicious. Perfect start of a day.

From Hotel Jozef you can easily explore the entire Idrija and Cerkno region. Although it rained all Saturday morning, we decided to visit the traditional miners’ house (rudarska hiša), learn about Idrija lace at the Idrija Lace School, visit the mercury mine with the Antonius main shaft and stroll around Gewerkenegg castle while the whole sunny afternoon was dedicated to the Idrija Zlikrofi Festival.

The next morning, we travelled through the Idrijca Landscape Park, where we visited the wild lake (Divje jezero), the confluence of the Idrijca and Belca rivers in the Lajst natural swimming pool and the majestic Klavze water dams.

Hotel Jozef is a boutique hotel in Idrija that offers a combination of modern and traditional twist and is perfect for a weekend getaway.
