Waterfall Sopota is one of the highest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia. This beautiful natural pearl is hidden in a remote region of Baška grapa/Bača ravine.

A slow train will take you from Plave village at 7:50am. The train passes through lower Soca valley and its towns (Deskle, Anhovo, Kanal ob Soči with lovely stone bridge where diving from the bridge takes place every year in mid August) and various small villages. The landscape is very diverse with numerous charming gorges, plains, terraces, hills and tunnels. After Most na Soči take a sit on the left side of the train and observe one of the nicest stone bridges/viadukt in Slovenia. Then you enter the narrow 30 km long valley of Baška gorge. Bohinjska proga/Bohinj railway was built between 1900 and 1906 as a link of Central Europe with the Adriatic Sea. Due to diverse terrain it was very difficult to construct it. By 8:19am you will reach Podmelec train station. From the train station take a walk through Kneža village (pay attention on picturesque Bača river gorge with its natural bridge) towards Podmelec/Ljubinj village, pass by the parish church of assumption and after 500 meters you will see a well-signed path towards waterfall Sopota. A neat path leads through the forest which provides lots of shade in the hot summer. The way is a bit steep at first but it becomes flatter later on. The track is well-maintained and secured with wooden fence. After 15 minutes of a pleasant walk you will reach a massive waterfall Sopota. Tall and narrow stream of Sopota waterfall falls over a 66-meter wall into a small pool surrounded by reach forest vegetation. Beside the pool there is a source of healing water that locals humorously named Babja sitnost. Waterfall Sopota takes your breath away. Take a rest on a bench, observe marvelous surroundings and enjoy unspoiled nature. Visiting the waterfall Sopota is a natural experience.
