Beer fountain a dream for all beer enthusiasts

Beer fountain is a dream for all beer lovers, right? The first beer fountain in Europe was open in September 2016 in Slovenia. It takes place in Žalec town in Lower Savinja region, the valley of green gold. The picturesque town with its long and rich brewing tradition is surrounded by hops plantations and hosts Eco Museum of Hop-Growing and Brewing Industry in Slovenia.

This not-a-free-flowing beer can be found in Žalec town’s park next to the market place and of course a church 🙂

How does the beer fountain function?

Firstly, you buy a beer glass in a shop close by a fountain. A glass, created by world famous Slovenian industrial designer and artist Oskar Kogoj, with 6 beer tastings (1 dcl each!) from any of the five different beer taps costs 8 EUR. Each glass has a token underneath. At the moment in a beer park there are 8 automatic dispensers offering 6 Slovenian craft beers (Kukec, ambassador beers, the Slovenian lagers, Saxonia beers, trend beers, experimental beers of the Slovenian Institute for Hop Research and Brewing in Žalec). So, when are you planning to visit it?!

Up for more beer?

Place your glass under the nozzle of the beer pump and fill up your glass with a beer. How cool idea, isn’t it? Due to its innovative concept the beer fountain is becoming a popular tourist attraction in Slovenia for local and foreign tourists. Did you know that more than 147.000 beer glasses have been sold in Žalec already?!

Opening hours:

The fountain is open from 1st of April till 31st of October.

• April, May: Monday – Thursday, Sunday: from 10 am to 7 pm, Friday –  Saturday: from 10 am to 8 pm
• June, July, August: Monday – Thursday, Sunday: from 10 am to 9 pm, Friday – Saturday: from 10 am to 11 pm
• September, October: Monday – Thursday, Sunday – from 10 am to 8 pm, Friday – Saturday – from 10 am to 9 pm

Best time to visit hops plantations: from mid August to beginning of September.
Best time to taste beers from beer fountain: from April to October.
