Eco farm Mikl Experience

Eco Farm Mikl, a charming family-run farmstay, is located in the Koroška region near Austria. It offers a peaceful environment on the edge of a pine forest, close to meadows and cultivated fields, with outstanding views of Mount Peca.
Despite the long drive from Ljubljana, we enjoyed winding through village roads and admiring the countryside. There was no signal on our mobile phones. Pure wilderness. One farm here, another one few kilometres away.

Matevž greeted us at Eco farm Mikl and took us to our fairytale wooden cottage. During the renovation of the old historic house, the engraved signature of Jurij and Lena, the former owners from 1786, was discovered. The entire cottage is decorated in vintage style, using natural materials and restored furniture. On the ground floor, there is a small kitchen with basic utensils, a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dining area, and a living room with a sofa and TV. Wooden stairs lead to the first floor, which has a double sofa bed in the corner and a double bed with access to the balcony. The balcony offers spectacular views of Mount Peca and a fishpond. In front of the house, there is a fenced lawn with a fireplace, sunbeds, and a covered terrace with a table and benches.

The children enjoyed racing on the main road (the road was mostly free of traffic, just a few cars and a group of mountain bikers) with their Formula 1 car, observing the animals on the farm, collecting eggs, and walking to the panoramic spot, while we took the opportunity to sunbathe in front of the cottage, listen to the ducks quacking, and roast chestnuts. It is so peaceful and relaxing here.

At Eco farm Mikl, they provide rooms, apartments, a fairytale cottage, and spaces for tents and campers to satisfy all kinds of guests.

We took advantage of staying at the farm to indulge our taste buds in the morning and evening. The delicious breakfast is definitely a good start to the day. We enjoyed locally produced cured meats, dairy products (cheese, cottage cheese, yoghurt, butter), honey, homemade jams (plum, strawberry), pickles, fresh vegetables (tomatoes, peppers), bread, apple juice, tea, cereals, and scrambled eggs. The evening culinary adventure began with potato and leek soup topped with pumpkin oil, polenta with sour cream, roast meat with onion, porcini mushrooms and courgettes. We washed down the main course with homemade must. The kvocevi nudlni, a sweet local dessert topped with plum jam, vanilla ice cream and coconut cake, was a delicious end to the dinner.

Matevž and Jenny’s kitchen is the heart of Eco farm Mikl. They use locally grown ingredients and seasonal vegetables, beef and pork from animals grazing on the nearby pastures, hand-picked mushrooms, and fruit from the orchards. What they do not produce, they buy from neighbouring farms. Zero kilometre food!
